The methodology

Why response time is the multiplier.

Up to 78% of buyers go with whoever calls them back first. Lead response research has repeated the same finding for years: the odds of contacting and qualifying a lead collapse after the first five minutes. A lead answered in five minutes and a lead answered the next morning are not the same lead. One is a conversation. The other is a voicemail in a pile of voicemails.

The calculator applies a conservative uplift multiplier to your current close rate based on how far your response time sits from the five minute standard. The slower you respond today, the more of your close rate is being suppressed by speed alone, and the bigger the recoverable gap. We cap the projected close rate at 85% because nobody closes everything, and we round the leak down. If your real number is different, it is probably bigger.

How does the calculator work?

It compares your current close rate against a projected close rate at a five minute response time, using conservative multipliers modeled on speed to lead research. The gap between the two, multiplied by your lead volume and average deal value, is the leak. It is an estimate, not a guarantee, and we deliberately round down.

Where do the multipliers come from?

Lead response research has shown the same pattern for nearly two decades: the odds of contacting and qualifying a lead fall off a cliff after the first five minutes, and up to 78% of buyers go with whoever responds first. Our multipliers are a conservative translation of that research. If anything, they understate the leak for businesses responding in days rather than hours.

My number came out huge. Is that realistic?

Usually, yes. Most owners have never multiplied their lead volume by their deal value by the conversion gap. The number feels big because the leak is invisible day to day. One slow callback never feels expensive. Three hundred of them a year is a different story.

What should I do with this number?
